Get the spandex out girls, because the athleisure ‘trend’ is here to stay… well at least until the end of Spring.
Even our favourite luxury designers are embracing the look, with labels such as Dior and Chanel showcasing the cycling shorts at their runway shows. Thanks to Kimmy K and her hubby Kanye’s now eponymous label Yeezy, athleisure is now a way of life.
From oversized tees and hoodies to sweaters, trackpants and cycling shorts, we’re seeing it-girls all over the world rocking this style from the desk to drinks.
Whether you’re into it or not, it’s still going to be a major look for Spring 2019.
Here’s how and where to wear the athleisure look… and it has absolutely nothing to do with physical exercise. Thank us later.
SPORTY SUITING
Getting suited and booted is always fun. Throw a pair of cycling shorts in the mix and you’re nailing ‘off-duty’ too. When models Hailey Baldwin and Gigi Hadid first started braving cycling shorts with heels, we weren’t 100% in. Fast forward to now and dressing up your workout gear has never felt so natural. Pair with a tailored suit jacket or boyfriend blazer and you’ve practically found your new dinner and drinks uniform and make every moment a powerful one.
Picture this: You, an espresso martini and some seriously fine tailoring. Looks good, right.

SHE MEANS BUSINESS
While we’re on that smart kinda’ vibe, let’s get down to business. This season, it’s all about oversized, baggy, boyfriend fits and our trusty cycling shorts offer the perfect way to merge sport luxe with smart silhouettes. Just like Kimmy K, dust your spandex best off and team with a pair of strappy sandal heels and an oversized white shirt. If you’re not totally vibing the oversized look, finish off your attire with a wide-brim black corset, or belt or layer up with a bralet over the top.
Think less meetings, more mojitos.

DRAMATIC DRESS-DOWN DAYS
We take our dress-down days seriously, and so should you. Welcome the unofficial fit of those ‘Netflix and chill’ type of days into your life and invest in a pair of casual joggers or trackpants. Perfect for running errands on the weekend or lazy Saturdays where a mid-morning coffee is the only activity pencilled in for the day. Leave your ‘activewear’ behind and team a basic slogan tee with a pair of stylish trackpants.
There’s nothing basic about these basics. Mood: down to chill.

CASUAL CLASSICS
Take some inspo from none other than the Queen of street style herself, Princess Diana. During her style reign of the 80’s and 90’s, her ultimate looks almost play like a beautiful compilation of the last few years in fashion. We’re currently picturing the famous Harvard sweatshirt teamed with white spandex cycling shorts and a Hermès bag… oh Di.
For brunch and beyond, nail off-duty like a boss and get the spandex out with your favourite sneakers, and an oversized tee or sweater. Leave the ‘dad’ sneakers behind though, it’s almost the end of that era.

SPORTY SETS
While we’re not quite there yet, the teeny tiny bit of sun that’s starting to appear is getting us all hot and bothered and dreaming about summer. Worked all week? Lounge all weekend in a co-ord that’ll look just as cute with a pair of sneakers as it would with your fave pair of heels. Throw this season’s bold windbreaker jacket over the top and you’re good to go.
Think cocktails, co-ords, and making waves on the festival field. Sporty sets are going to steal the show.
